Members of the Georgia Republican Party on Tuesday said the media is “turning a blind eye” to Democrat Jon Ossoff’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
Ossoff wants to represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate.
“At a time when Georgians want to be certain that their elected officials aren’t compromised by China, the mainstream media is doing its best to ensure that voters never learn the truth about Jon Ossoff,” said GAGOP spokeswoman Abigail Sigler, in an emailed press release.
“Ossoff’s inability to come clean about his shady business dealings with the CCP should be all the people of Georgia need to know — they cannot trust him to stand up to our adversaries and put Americans first.”
Members of the Georgia GOP, in their press release, said the following:
• Ossoff took money from PCCW, a Chinese company tied to the country’s communist government.
• Ossoff failed to disclose his relationship with PCCW in his May disclosure.
• When pressed about why he did not include PCCW in his document, Ossoff called it a “paperwork oversight.”
• Earlier in December, Ossoff’s campaign “changed its tune on payments the Democrat received from a Chinese Communist Party-linked media conglomerate in Hong Kong, after Georgia Republicans filed an ethics complaint alleging he ‘knowingly and willfully’ failed to disclose the payments in a May financial disclosure.”
• Ossoff has yet to answer whether China is the only Communist government he has done business with.
“Even as ‘polling suggests Ossoff’s China scandal is hurting his election chances’ and Eric Swalwell’s ‘newly revealed relationship with Chinese spy Christine Fang is helping the GOP press Jon Ossoff about his financial ties to China,’ mainstream reporters are standing down when it comes to Ossoff pushing on the countless unanswered questions about his business dealings with the CCP,” according to the GOP press release.
“Instead, Ossoff’s scrutiny from mainstream ‘journalists’ consists of observations about how ‘sweet he is,’ praise for his academic credentials, and gushing about being in his presence,” the press release said.
As reported, U.S. Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) and U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) are on the January 5, 2021 ballot for the U.S. Senate against Ossoff and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Raphael Warnock, respectively. The two races will determine whether Republicans or Democrats control the majority in the U.S. Senate.
